I had a similar experience, and also the issue that Twitter users
would not play ball and use Identi.ca as well.
There was also the case of this journalist who was an avid user of
Google Reader, and he realized at some point that although he could
move his subscriptions from Google Reader to any other RSS service or
application thanks to the OPML file offered by Google Checkout, he
could not do anything for the thousands of users who were using his
subscriptions, nor the larger number of websites (including his) who
were pointing to his Google Reader feeds and individual articles.
